BEST OF THE FEST PROGRAM FOR 53RD CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FEATURES HUGO-WINNERS AND AUDIENCE FAVORITES OCTOBER 25-26!

53rd Festival Award-Winning Films

Films from Argentina, Poland, Senegal, Iran, Colombia, Spain, and the U.S. Receive Top Honors at Awards Ceremony

 

The Chicago International Film Festival hosted an awards presentation, sponsored by Sound Investment AV, at the AMC River East 21, celebrating the films that chosen by the Festival juries to receive awards.  Prizes were awarded to films in the following categories:  International Competition; New Directors Competition; International Documentary Competition; Out-Look Competition; The Chicago Award; and Short Film Competition.

Taking home the top prize, the Gold Hugo, in the International Feature Film Competition, is Argentinian director Diego Lerman’s A Sort of Family, the story of a doctor’s desperate journey to adopt a baby girl, which had its U.S.

Sir Patrick Stewart to Be Honored at 53rd Festival

The 53rd Chicago International Film Festival, presented by Cinema/Chicago, announced today that film and theater legend Sir Patrick Stewart will be honored with the Gold Hugo Career Achievement Award!

The award will be presented on October 25, 2017 at a special event during the Festival to be held at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago. The Tribute to Patrick Stewart will be a one-of-a-kind salute to a towering figure of stage and screen and will feature an on-stage discussion with the actor showcasing highlights and clips from his decades-spanning career.[…]

53rd Festival Centerpiece and Closing Night Films Announced

The two films slated for the Festival’s Centerpiece and Closing Night are Greta Gerwig’s solo directorial debut, Lady Bird, to be screened on Wednesday, October 18 and the Closing Night presentation, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, which was recently honored with the Golden Lion at the 2017 Venice Film Festival, with a special tribute to star Michael Shannon, an actor with deep Chicago roots.
