56th Festival Juries Announced

Today, the Chicago International Film Festival announced the competition juries for the 56th Festival!

Featuring a host of acclaimed filmmakers and film professionals from across the globe, the juries will review films competing for prizes in the following competitions: International Competition; New Directors Competition; International Documentary Competition; Out-Look; City & State; and Short Film Competitions.

The International Competition Jury will award the Gold Hugo for Best Film as well as a range of Silver Hugos and Plaques for awards, including Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay.[…]

Full Industry Days Schedule Announced!

We’re excited to announce the full schedule for Industry Days 2020, being held virtually for the first time!

This year’s Industry Keynote conversation will feature Academy Award®-winning producer and president of Plan B Entertainment Dede Gardner, whose credits include 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight, both presented at past editions of the Festival.

Additionally, Industry Days will host master classes with Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Skyfall, Penny Dreadful, Hugo) and six-time Grammy-winner and Oscar-nominated trumpeter/ composer Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Da 5 Bloods, One Night in Miami), along with a one-on-one conversation with trailblazing producer and CEO of Gamechanger Films Effie Brown (Dear White People).[…]

We’re excited to announce the World Premiere of Belushi to open the 56th Chicago International Film Festival!

In a hybrid format, with both virtual and drive-in screenings, the 56th Chicago International Film Festival will take place Wednesday, October 14 – Sunday, October 25, 2020 with a full slate of more than 50 feature films and nine short film programs.

The Opening Night film will be the World Premiere of the SHOWTIME ® Documentary Films feature documentary Belushi, chronicling the celebrated career and untimely death of native son and The Second City alumnus John Belushi, Wednesday, October 14, 7pm ET at Pilsen’s ChiTown Movies drive-in theater, 2343 South Throop Street.[…]

On July 14, the Chicago International Film Festival’s Industry Days and the Chicago Film Office hosted the virtual panel discussion “Did You Hear That?” with Chicago-based sound professionals to discuss their strategies, methods, and creative impulses in combining sound with image as well as the challenges and strategies for working under Covid-19 conditions. The entire panel was recorded and is available to stream above.

While our panelists discussed their craft and strategies in detail and answered questions from our virtual attendees, there were still many questions we were not able to get to in the one hour panel discussion.[…]
