Announcing the Industry Days Schedule, Oct 14-17

The 57th Chicago International Film Festival announced today the program for Industry Days, to be held October 14 – 17, 2021, with an impressive list of guest speakers to inspire and illuminate the film and entertainment community.

Highlights include this year’s Keynote talk with Brenda Gilbert, President and Co-Founder of BRON Studios, which has received six Academy Award wins for films such as Fences, Joker, Bombshell, Roman J. Israel, Esq., and Judas and the Black Messiah; a State of the Industry conversation with Nancy Utley, former co-head of Searchlight Pictures, and Chan Phung, Searchlight’s current Senior Vice President Acquisitions and Production; and a Screenwriting Master Class with Oscar-nominated writer Virgil Williams (Mudbound, this year’s A Journal For Jordan).[…]

Headshot: Mimi PlauchéThe French Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, announced that Chicago International Film Festival Artistic Director Mimi Plauché has been awarded the title and rank of Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Lettres). Given since 1957 by the French Ministry of Culture, this honorary distinction is one of the main distinctions among the four Ministerial orders of the French Republic. Winning Poster Design for the 54th Chicago Int’l Film Festival

54th Chicago International Film Festival posterCinema/Chicago and the 54th Chicago International Film Festival has announced the winner of 2018’s poster design competition: Chicago’s own Michael Zhang. Zhang’s design will be the signature look of the Festival, held October 10-21, 2018.

Zhang won a truly global contest, which in the past three years has featured winners from Scotland, Taiwan and the Netherlands. His design was chosen from more than 200 submissions spanning 30 countries. The poster depicts the façade of a vintage movie theater, presenting the exciting thrill of a neon-lit marquee and a classic art deco design.[…]

Announcing the award winners from Cinema/Chicago’s 2018 CineYouth festival!

Cinema/Chicago’s CineYouth Film Festival is designed to encourage youth filmmakers in their creative endeavors. CineYouth provides opportunities for young filmmakers to articulate themselves artistically, and have their voice heard. Held annually in Chicago, CineYouth is a three-day festival celebrating and fostering the creativity of filmmakers 22 years old and younger by screening officially selected work and encouraging their creative endeavors by presenting a filmmaking workshop, discussions and panels.

Mimi Plauché Promoted to Artistic Director of the Chicago International Film Festival and Cinema/Chicago

CHICAGO – Cinema/Chicago, the parent organization of the Chicago International Film Festival, announced the promotion of two long-time employees. Mimi Plauché has been named Artistic Director of the Chicago International Film Festival and Cinema/Chicago, effective immediately. Michael Kutza, who founded the Festival in 1964 and has since served as Artistic Director, will continue to serve as the President and CEO, with a dedicated new focus on overseeing operations, the branding of the larger Cinema/Chicago organization, fundraising and supporting the expansion of education programs.[…]
