D-Composed on Screen
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Chicago International Film Festival, the Black chamber music collective D-Composed is joining forces with the Festival to celebrate the works of Black film composers, such as Kathryn Bostic and Kris Bowers, with a live performance and post-show panel discussion.
Program Overview
Discover the music behind some of your favorite films with an afternoon dedicated to the works of Black film composers. Hear a range of musical styles, interpretations, and moods from composers Kathryn Bostic, Tamar-kali, Kris Bowers, Amanda Jones, and Terence Blanchard in films such as King Richard, Mea Culpa, and Blackkklansman. Witness the music come to life with arrangements adapted for string quartet by composer Ahmed Al Abaca performed by D-Composed.
