Great Things in Small Packages
For decades, the Film Independent Spirit Awards have recognized achievement in lower-budget cinema, from small-scale breakouts that became box-office darlings to the kinds of risk-taking personal visions that festivals like CIFF proudly showcase. A week before the Oscar nominations usurp all headlines in movie-world, we’ll reprise a tradition from last year and highlight some of the diverse artistry showcased in this year’s Indie Spirit nominees, all the more impressive for being achieved with limited resources. Don’t finalize your year-end lists before taking in some of these crafty, potent, and poignant underdogs!
