50th Chicago International Film Festival Announces the Audience Choice Awards, Presented by Wintrust Community Banks

CHICAGO (October 27, 2014) – The 50th Chicago International Film Festival proudly announces the winners of the Audience Choice Awards, presented by Wintrust Community Banks. Each member of the audience received a ballot at every public screening during the two-week Festival, so each film had an equal opportunity to win. Audiences ranked films on a five-point scale, votes were tallied and averaged, and the films that received the highest averages were declared the winners.

CHICAGO (October 24, 2014) – In the last 50 years, the Chicago International Film Festival has presented over 10,000 features selected from over 80,000 entries, and has taken place over a period of 100 weeks while audiences have enjoyed over 1.5 million bags of popcorn. The Festival’s enduring tradition has demonstrated that everybody loves movies, especially those offering unique visions and stories seen as they were meant to be seen—on the big screen.
The 50th Chicago International Film Festival wrapped up its golden anniversary celebration on Thursday, October 23 with the Closing Night presentation of Jean-Marc Vallée’s and Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling book “Wild,” starring Reese Witherspoon in an Oscar®-worthy performance.[…]

Director Gina Prince-Bythewood and Actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw to be Honoured at 18th Annual Black Perspectives Tribute and Gala

CHICAGO, IL (October 6, 2014) – The 50th Chicago International Film Festival will honor director Gina Prince-Bythewood and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw at the 18th Annual Black Perspectives Tribute and Gala, Friday, October 10. The red carpet event starts at 6.30 p.m. at AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois St.), followed by a special presentation of Prince-Bythewood’s latest film “Beyond the Lights.” Mbatha-Raw and Prince-Bythewood are scheduled to appear on the red carpet and at the Gala.

Chicago International Film Festival Docufest Program Celebrates the Best in Non-Fiction Filmmaking

CHICAGO, IL (October 1, 2014) – The 50th Chicago International Film Festival and Program Partner Columbia College proudly present Docufest, which is comprised of 18 exciting non-fiction features from around the world. Eight of these films are in competition—all of which are without U.S. distribution. Seven are making their U.S. or North American Premieres at the Festival. Winners are selected by a jury of film professionals with awards to be presented at the Festival’s Award Ceremony on Friday, October 17 at 9pm at The Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, 20 E.[…]
